지속가능한 제품을 위해 EU 역내에서 판매되는 모든 제품의 지속가능성 향상을 골자로 하며 제품 설계에서부터 생산 그리고 폐기에 이루는 전 주기에 적용된다. ESPR은 환경 기준을 제품디자인(설계)을 포함하는 것으로, 디지털제품 여권(Digital Product Passport, DPP)을 도입해서 제품 전주기(Product Life Cycle, PLC) 정보를 소비자가 직접 파악할 수 있도록 정보를 제공해야 한다.
